Friday the 27th of October saw 90 girls from 3 Schools in the county in Transition Year (TY) come together in UCD Sports Centre on their final week of the programme to perform their routine.
Cayisha the Dance instructor brought the 3 schools together creating a fun & energetic environment through Zumba & Hip Hop Dances. Each School then had their opportunity to perform their fantastic routines which was then followed by a big group warm down.
The aim of the programme is to increase participation in physical activity among teenage girls in TY through a mix of activity, dance and fun learning to generate an interest and awareness in being healthy and active.
Numerous studies have highlighted how girls’ participation in physical activity is lower than that of boys and is characterised by a sharp decline during adolescence. This programme has been built on the success of previous programmes and based on the feedback from participants/schools; this became a dance-focused programme in 2012.
Following on from this programme were hoping next term will be even bigger and better with more schools joining in on the programme.
