Transition Year Active for Fun Programme
The aim of this programme is to increase participation among girls in physical activity and sport thorough a mix of education and targeted activities.
Active for Fun Programme is a pilot programme where the transition year pupils from one or two local secondary schools (possibly those designated as disadvantaged) in the vicinity of public leisure centres are taking part in an 8 weeks of physical activity and health awareness sessions.
A combination of guidance, motivation and fun activity will be use to engage these young girls and help them to integrate activity into their daily lives. Activities will include use of the gym area, dance classes, outdoor games, use of the pool all supported by educational advice. Sessions will be for an hour duration and have fun as the key element.
The Monkstown, Loughlinstown and Meadowbrook Leisure Centres are excellent facilities to base this pilot programme. Centre staff will be supervising the activity aspects with coordination and administrative support from the Sports Partnership.
