Governance Code launch 2 minSport Ireland today announced that it is taking over the Governance Code for Community, Voluntary and Charitable Organisations as a Governance Code for Sport.

This follows the decision of the Governance Code Working Group to retire the Code of Practice for Good Governance of Community, Voluntary and Charitable Organisations (the Code).

The Government’s National Sports Policy, published in July 2018, tasks Sport Ireland with overseeing a process whereby all National Governing Bodies for Sport and Local Sports Partnerships adopt the Code by the end of 2021 (Action 31). In taking over the Code, Sport Ireland can ensure that this objective is delivered and that all funded organisations have appropriate governance structures in place.

PCP 2756One of our most enjoyable initiatives this year, The Daily Mile Schools Event, took place in Marlay Park on Thursday 9th May. Nearly 1,300 primary school children from six schools around the County ran a mile route within Marlay Park and were awarded a medal of achievement at the finish line.

This event was held to celebrate the hard work and dedication of the students to the Daily Mile initiative throughout their school year. A simple concept where students leave their desks for 15 minutes a day to run a mile around their yard or local green space. It doesn’t require equipment set up, helps children increase their fitness while improving concentration levels.

The winners minThe DLR Go For Life Games were held in dlr Leisure Loughlinstown on Thursday 16th May for anyone over 55 years of age, linking in with the weekly activity sessions taking place in the four dlr Leisure centres across the County.

Ladies and gents from across the County came together to enjoy a morning of fun activities and light refreshments. The purpose of the games were to have a friendly inter-centre competition between our public dlr leisure centres and choose a team of 12 people to represent DLR at the National Go For Life Games in UCD on the 8th June.
