Start an active and healthy 2020 with a FREE public walk on the 18th January as part of Operation Transformation!
If you are looking for something to get you on the road to a healthy and active 2020, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Sports Partnership has the perfect event for you. As part of our aim to encourage residents of the County to get active, a FREE 4km public walk will be held on the 18th January in Marlay Park at 11am (registration from 10.30am).
This event is being held in conjunction with Sport Ireland and RTE’s Operation Transformation programme. On this day every County in Ireland will have a similar walking event to cater for all levels of fitness, but in particular those looking to start exercising again.
Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross TD, and Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin TD, recently announced an investment package of €4.2 million in Dormant Accounts Funding for a wide range of sport and physical activity measures countrywide.
The investment will be administered by Sport Ireland and will aim to engage with communities across the country, focusing on people with disabilities, people who are educationally disadvantaged and from disadvantaged communities.
One of our most enjoyable initiatives this year, The Daily Mile Schools Event, took place on Ballyogan Green on Wednesday 13th of November 2019. Over 350 primary school children from 3 local schools (Gaelscoil Sliabh Rua, Holy Trinity and Stepaside Educate Together) completed a mile route within Ballyogan Green and were awarded a medal of achievement at the finish line.
This is a FREE Open Evening showcasing sports and social groups for people with a disability taking place on the 25th of November from 4-6pm in Explorium Ireland, Sandyford.
This is our 3rd year of running the event with nearly 200 children and adults through the doors last year. This year Explorium have offered to host the event and as part of the event children and adults can try some of the amazing activities on offer in Explorium for free during the 2 hours. It is a truly unique, world-class experience where science and sport fuse.

We are holding a 4 week ‘Back to Basics’ walking programme each Monday from 4th – 25th November. We meet at Harbour Plaza, Dun Laoghaire at 11am.
This programme is aimed at people wanting to increase their fitness at their own pace while in a social environment. It will be led by a walking expert who will be on hand to give help and advice. Each walk will take approximately 45 minutes and a different route will be taken each week.
