If you are looking for something to get you on the road to a healthy and active 2016, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Sports Partnership have a few ideas for you. As part of our aim to encourage residents of the County to get more active, we are organising and supporting a range of events and programmes for all fitness levels.
Operation Transformation Walk Event
Our annual FREE 4km public walk will be held on the 9th January in Dun Laoghaire (starting in the Peoples Park) at 10am. This event is being held in conjunction with RTE’s Operation Transformation programme. On this day every County in Ireland will have a similar walking event to cater for all levels of fitness, but in particular those looking to start exercising again. Trained walking leaders will be present on the day for a helping hand and there will be a hot cuppa at the finish line for all.
5-Week Walking Programme
Taking place in Dun Laoghaire on Saturday mornings from 10.30am to 11.30am and starting on the 16th January. This 5-week programme will cater for all fitness levels and will be a great excuse to get out, be active and make new friends. Meeting at Dún Laoghaire Harbour Plaza, each week the group will walk a different route such as the pier, the Metals and the coastal walkways taking in some of the historical sites the area has to offer.
Couch to 5K - DSD Athletic Club
Parkrun is a FREE weekly 5km event for runners of all standards, which takes place every Saturday at 9:30am in Marlay, Shanganagh and Cabinteely Parks. It is not a race, but a 5k timed run and it can really be whatever you want it to be, whether that's for fun or as part of a training plan. All you need to do is register at www.parkrun.ie and then go along on the Saturdays.
