PC 9835One of our most enjoyable initiatives this year, The Daily Mile Schools Event, took place on Ballyogan Green on Wednesday 13th of November 2019. Over 350 primary school children from 3 local schools (Gaelscoil Sliabh Rua, Holy Trinity and Stepaside Educate Together) completed a mile route within Ballyogan Green and were awarded a medal of achievement at the finish line.

This event was held to celebrate the hard work and dedication of the students to the Daily Mile initiative over the past few weeks. A simple concept where students leave their desks for 15 minutes a day to run a mile around their yard or local green space. It doesn’t require equipment set up, helps children increase their fitness while improving concentration levels.

The Ballyogan Sports & Activity Hub aims to coordinate the sustainable engagement for the local community in physical activity and sport. The local schools and parkland are at the centre of the Hub.

Shane Mc Ardle, Coordinator in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Sports Partnership commented ‘It’s great to see so many children in Ballyogan today utilising this marvellous local resource. The route we have chosen today is in the same location as the Junior parkrun route which takes place here every Sunday morning for children from 4-14 yrs. We want the hundreds of kids here today to go home and encourage their parents and siblings to link in at the weekends to their local parkrun and create an active and healthy family ethos.’

Congratulations to all the children and teachers that attended today!!! Also thanks to Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, An Leas Cathaoirleach Cllr. Deirdre Donnelly and Athletics Ireland who assisted during the event.
