Walking Programmes

Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Sports Partnership organise fun social walking programmes throughout the year for those wishing to increase their pace and fitness levels.

The location will change with each programme e.g. Marlay Park, Dún Laoghaire & Shanganagh Park. These 4-6 week courses will cost approximately €8- €10 and a motivational walking expert will lead the way, offering advice on fitness and health.

It’s a fun and social way of integrating walking into your lifestyle and we encourage you to bring along a partner/buddy or family member.

Transition Year Active Dance Programme

This 5-week Transition Year programme uses a mix of activity and dance along with educational workshops, to create an interest among teenage girls to participate in regular physical activity. Numerous studies have highlighted how girls' participation in physical activity is lower that that of boys and is characterised by a sharp decline during adolescence.

Run in partnership with ourselves, UCD Sport, HSE and local schools, activity sessions are for the duration of one hour and the key element of each of the sessions is to have fun while exercising.

The aim of this programme is to increase participation among girls in physical activity and sport thorough a mix of education and targeted activities.

The approach is based on the established “Woodlands For Health” programme based in Wicklow. The Wicklow programme is a partnership between Coillte, Mental Health Ireland (MHI), Southside Partnership DLR, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Sports Partnership (DLRSP) and the Health Service Executive (HSE).
