If you are looking for something to get you on the road to a healthy and active 2018, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Sports Partnership have a few ideas for you. Whether its going for a walk in your local park, starting back to fitness through to try achieve a 5k or joining a sports club there's something for everyone.
Operation Transformation Walk Event
Our annual FREE 4km public walk will be held on the 13th January in Cabinteely Park at 11am. This event is being held in conjunction with RTE’s Operation Transformation programme. On this day every County in Ireland will have a similar walking event to cater for all levels of fitness, but in particular those looking to start exercising again. Trained walking leaders will be present on the day for a helping hand and there will be a hot cuppa at the finish.
Walking For Health
Starting on the 20th January, this 5-week walking programme (€10 for all five weeks) is taking place in Cabinteely Park on Saturday mornings at 11am. It will cater for all fitness levels and will be a great excuse to get out, be active and make new friends. Meeting in front of the main house, each week the group will walk for approximately an hour and include a range of exercises to improve your mobility.
The Buggy Brigade
Are you a new parent and want to meet up for some fun activity for any fitness levels and ability? Organised by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Sports Partnership & dlr Leisure the group will take part in weekly hour long activity sessions. Classes will be fun and social where you will get into shape while having fun and making new friends for you and your baby.
Parkrun
Parkrun is a FREE volunteer lead weekly 5km event for runners of all standards, which takes place every Saturday at 9:30am in Marlay, Shanganagh and Cabinteely Parks. It is not a race, but a 5k timed run and it can really be whatever you want it to be, whether that's for fun or as part of a training plan. All you need to do is register at www.parkrun.ie and then go along on the Saturdays.
Junior Parkrun
Junior parkrun is a shorter 2k run for children aged between 4 and 14. There are two new venues in the County – Marlay and Deerpark – which are open to all, free, safe and easy to take part in. All you need to do is register at www.parkrun.ie and then go along on the Saturdays.
Couch to 5K - DSD Athletic Club
Do you want to improve your fitness levels and progress the distance you can jog up to completing a 5k? This is the perfect group for you. Organised by Dundrum South Dublin Athletic Club, the Couch to 5k is a walk to run plan that will gradually increase your periods of non-stop running. Join a Sports Club
We have nearly 300 clubs based in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown across nearly any sport you can think of from Archery to Skiing to Volleyball. Why not get back into a sport you loved or even try something totally different. Try a New Activity
There are loads of activities and sports to try around the County and each day in July we highlighted one that you could take part in.
