2020 has been a tough year especially for those who have been cocooning and the over 65yrs Adults. Throughout the Covid -19 pandemic, we at Dun Laoghaire Rahtdown Sports Partnership have been working hard to ensure that the older adults of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown remain physically active. We have adapted by using online and other innovative programmes. Ensuring that everyone in the community has the opportunity to share in the enjoyment as well as the mental and physical health benefits of activity.
We are delighted to introduce our new Stepping Out Together programme. This is a Free 6-week combined physical activity programme incorporating strength, mobility, walking & mindfulness.
Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Sports Partnership is delight to partner up with Siel Bleu to roll out 2 different FREE 8 week online exercise programmes for the over 55s. These classes are suitable for all fitness levels and can be done in the comfort of your own home.
The first class is a Strength & Balance class on Tuesdays starting on the 23rd of Feb until 11th May @ 12:30. This class is designed to help people build strength in areas to improve balance issues. Using a wide range of functional exercises we will aim to teach people how to exercise at their own level and finding the balance of a safe and effective exercise. The second class is a Mobility & Stretch class on Wednesdays starting the 24th of Feb until 12th May @ 11:00am. This class is designed to take people through a full body mobility routine from a seated or standing position. The exercises executed throughout this programme will help to improve mobility and flexibility. In December 2020, Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Sports Partnership was delighted to assist 36 local clubs with Covid-19 related costs and expenditure totalling €43,000. Funding of €15,000 has also been made available to support the Parkruns in the area once they can return.
The COVID-19 Club Small Grant Scheme is part of a series of COVID-19 related funding schemes from Sport Ireland, following the announcement of €70 million of funding by the Government to support the sports sector in response to the Covid-19 crisis.
