Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown sports Partnership aids the continous development of all the clubs that are located within the County. From the large and established club to the newly founded and inexperienced club, there is opportunities for all to develop and improve their clubs situation.

DLR Sports Partnership aids the clubs of the County by providing information in relevant areas, offering education programmes to improve the knowledge of the clubs and their members and implements programmes which provide adequate assistance to help the clubs grow and develop.

The following includes some of the ways in which DLR Sports Partnerhip aids club development:

Sports Forum

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Sports Partnership works to promote participation, inclusion and coordination in sport at a local level. To support this work the Sports Forum has been established to represent all of the various sports clubs in the area.

Every sports club based in the County can nominate three individuals (one main nominee with two additional nominees) to represent it on the Sports Forum where members tackle issues of mutual interest, discover methods of overcoming issues and identifying best practice. This group allows for better communication between clubs and act as a coordinated voice for local level sports clubs in the County. In addition three individuals are nominated by this group to sit on the Board of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Sports Partnership.

Courses

  1. Safeguarding 1 – Child Welfare & Protection Basic Awareness Course
    All Coaches, Children’s Officers and Designated Liaison Persons (DLP) must first complete the 3 hour Child Welfare & Protection Basic Awareness Course.  This course educates participants on the implementation of best practice in protecting the welfare of children involved in sport.
  2. Safeguarding 2 – Club Children’s Officer (C.C.O)
    A person appointed to the Club Children’s Officer position in a club must have completed safeguarding 1 (Child Welfare & Protection Basic Awareness workshop) and should complete the NEW Club Children’s Officer 3 hour workshop. This course will help the Club Children’s Officer to carry out the function of their role in the club and support the implementation of best practice in the club. Participants will also receive a Club Children’s Officer Action Planning document as part of the training.
  3. Safeguarding 3 – Designated Liaison Person(DLP)
    A person appointed to the Designated Liaison Person position in a club must have completed the Child Welfare & Protection Basic Awareness Course and should complete the NEW Designated Liaison Person 3 hour workshop. A club may appoint the same person to both the CCO and DLP positions however best practice advises that they are kept as separate roles.
  4. Sports First Aid – aim is to assist Sports Clubs in the county to provide a safe environment for those participating in sport. On completion of this course, participants will be certified in emergency response training and be able to provide necessary first aid while awaiting the arrival of the emergency services. First Aid is an essential skill to have particularly when you are dealing with physical or sporting activities.

DLR Sports Partnership offers various grants throughout the year. However, many of these are not fixed in date and amount and are only advertised through the Sports Partnership. Keep an eye on the “Grants” section of our website for further details.
